Ethnic Capital and Class Reproduction: Comparing the Impact of Socio-Economic Status on Children's Educational Attainment Across Ethno-Religious Groups in Israel

This article investigates the relationships between ethnicity, class, and prospects of educational success. For this purpose, we compared effects family socio-economic characteristics on children's attainment in four ethno-religious groups Israel (Muslim, Christian, Druze Palestinians; Jews). Information from 1995 census households with at least one child born cohort 1975-1985 is matched Ministry Education records all those who achieved matriculation certificates academic degrees 2012. The results show that outcomes Christian children are less dependent their to Muslim Jewish children. We suggest disadvantage Palestinian schools a Jewish-dominated state offset by tougher competition disadvantaged strata face attended affluent strata. Family background more important for than certificate. Furthermore, education occupation mothers fathers both have an equally impact outcomes.
